Lake Te Anau Control Gates

Coordinates: -45.440557, 167.686265

The control gates are always a good starting point. You can travel on foot or bicycle from the town past the DOC visitor centre to the start of the Kepler Track. You can also drive there in your car or nip out on a Tracknet bus during the tramping season, they make 4 trips a day between 8:30 am and 2:40 pm. If you have a fishing licence take your rod and have a fish in the upper Waiau.

While you are there, I would recommend the easy forest walk along the lake to Brod Bay, 5km each way. This photo was made on an ordinary day in April 2014.
